Netbooks are NOT driving a Linux revolution

For me the appeal of Linux is the flexibility that it affords. I think that the heavily customised Linux distributions offered by the Linux only Netbooks are putting people off, they work but that is not the point. Deciding what operating system / Linux distribution to install requires you to think about what you want your computer to do. I think that Ubuntu 8.10 is far better than Linpus Linux Lite that comes pre-installed on the Acer Aspire One, for example, but for some users Linpus Linux Lite might be sufficient to get the job done.

Ubuntu is clearly not a one size fits all solution. For example, The Elonex Webbook which ships with Ubuntu, was taken back to the shop by 20 per cent of purchasers.
